At Kilik, we want the products you purchase to last you a lifetime! It’s important for us to share best practices directly from the artisans on how to best care for your treasures.
These pieces carry stories, heritage, and the skilled hands of those who made them and with just a little extra love and attention, they can continue to bring beauty and meaning into your everyday life for years to come. Here you can find simple tips and care instructions.
Pottery Care
For all red, smoked, black clay pottery
- Do not put pottery in dishwasher or microwave. Wash thoroughly by hand with soap/water and let air dry before storing or next use
- Barro rojo (red clay)/Barro ahumado (smoked) coffee mugs are safely glazed and can be used daily as tableware or decor
- Barro negro (black clay) coffee mugs are sold straight out of the oven. There might be some remains of the charcoal/smoke in which it was baked. If this occurs, soak the product in warm water overnight and give it a good wash. It is safe to use daily as tableware or decor
- For vases, we recommend using a plastic container to hold your water and flowers to preserve the longevity of your piece
- Keep pottery out of sun when possible to preserve the color
- All pottery is made of organic material and is safe to use
-
All pottery has been tested and is lead free
Textile Care
For throw pillows, scarfs, shawls, ponchos, textile totes and macrame
- Always hand wash with cold water
- It is recommended to spot clean macrame handbags
- Lay flat to dry or hang dry without wringing
- If necessary, iron on low with a protective cloth on top of the garment
-
If there is a need to machine wash, please do so in a garment bag on delicate settings (not for macrame handbags)
